Sustainability at AXXUM: Systematic responsibility and awarded by EcoVadis
Sustainability has long since ceased to be an additional topic in industry. It determines how sustainable companies are, how stable supply chains are and how credible brands are. As a provider of industrial packaging, contract logistics and digital supply chain solutions, AXXUM combines economic performance with measurable responsibility.
The EcoVadis award of Committed Status confirms this claim at European level.
Why sustainability is crucial in the packaging and logistics industry
Packaging and logistics have a significant impact on emissions within industrial value chains. Transport routes, energy consumption, use of materials and storage processes have a direct impact on CO₂ emissions.
CO₂ stands for carbon dioxide. It is a greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to global warming. Companies that make targeted reductions in this area not only improve their environmental footprint, but also their competitiveness.
At the same time, regulatory requirements are increasing. The Supply Chain Duty of Care Act obliges companies to assess and document social and environmental risks in their supply chain. The European CSRD Directive also requires transparent sustainability reports.
For customers, this means that choosing a sustainable logistics partner reduces their own risks and makes it easier and safer to comply with reporting obligations.
AXXUM's sustainability strategy: holistic and measurable
Since this year, we have based our sustainability reporting on the VSME standard (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs). It offers a uniform, application-oriented framework for the transparent presentation of key environmental, social and governance aspects. A key advantage of the VSME over the previously used, nationally oriented DNK is its EU-wide orientation, which provides uniform guidance for companies and stakeholders in a European context.
The decisive factor here is measurability. Sustainability is not only communicated, but also backed up with concrete key figures. These include the corporate carbon footprint. This is the total sum of all greenhouse gas emissions of a company within a certain period of time.
AXXUM has significantly reduced its emissions since 2021. Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 are taken into account here. This classification describes where emissions are generated.
Scope 3 is particularly relevant in logistics. This is often where the greatest impact occurs. As part of the further development of our carbon footprint, we have been recording Scope 3 emissions in full for the first time this year. As a result, our corporate carbon footprint will be higher in future than in previous years. However, this increase is primarily due to the improved data basis and the more comprehensive mapping of our value chain, not to an actual increase in our emissions.
The transparency we have gained enables us to specifically identify the greatest levers for reducing emissions along the supply chain and derive appropriate measures.
EcoVadis Committed Status: What the award means for customers
EcoVadis is an internationally recognized rating platform for sustainability in companies. It evaluates the environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
This is the second time that AXXUM has undergone this independent assessment. What is new is that the entire company scope was included. This means that all German and international companies across Europe were assessed.
This creates security for customers. The sustainability performance is not assessed internally, but audited externally.
In an industry comparison, AXXUM easily keeps pace with established market players. At the same time, the company pursues a pragmatic approach. Measures are implemented where they actually have an impact. Not for image reasons, but with a real effect.
Specific measures to reduce CO₂ along the value chain
One key lever is the optimization of transport routes. Strategic location decisions, for example in the vicinity of the Port of Hamburg, can shorten routes and reduce emissions.
Energy efficiency also plays a key role. Processes are continuously analyzed and improved. An energy audit in accordance with DIN EN 16247-1 ensures that potential savings are systematically identified.
The aim is to reduce emissions not just selectively, but along the entire production and logistics chain. This relieves both the environment and the budget.
Sustainability in practice: added value for customers
Sustainability has a direct impact on performance. Shorter transportation routes mean lower costs and fewer emissions. Efficient processes increase adherence to deadlines and planning reliability.
The My AXXUM digital platform gives customers transparency across their entire value chain. Processes are digitally mapped and documented in a traceable manner.
Real-time data loggers record temperature, humidity and acceleration during transportation. This increases the security of sensitive goods and reduces damage. Less damage means less resource consumption and less re-production.
Supplier management is also supported digitally. Specialized software enables risk analyses and creates transparency in complex supply chains. This helps customers to efficiently meet their own compliance requirements.
Innovation as a driver of sustainable performance
AXXUM combines traditional packaging expertise with digital solutions. This combination cannot be taken for granted in the market.
Management systems such as ISO 9001 for quality management or ISO 27001 for information security ensure structured processes. ISO 14001 concerns environmental management.
Such standards define clear standards. They ensure that sustainability is implemented systematically and not randomly.
The One Brand strategy also strengthens Europe-wide integration. Uniform standards and central control ensure transparency across national borders.
Responsibility in the supply chain as a competitive advantage
The Supply Chain Due Diligence Act obliges companies to identify risks relating to human rights and the environment. AXXUM has established and documented corresponding processes.
Clear governance structures and a whistleblower policy create internal security. Risks are identified and addressed at an early stage.
This means less reputational risk for customers. At the same time, the stability of the entire supply chain is increased.
Employer quality as part of sustainable corporate governance
Sustainability is not just about environmental aspects. It also includes social responsibility.
AXXUM was recognized as a Most Wanted Employer. This rating reflects the company's attractiveness as an employer. Further training, leadership culture and long-term employment are key building blocks.
Motivated and qualified employees ensure quality and innovative strength. This has a direct impact on customer satisfaction and project success.
How AXXUM stands out from the competition
AXXUM does not view sustainability in isolation per location, but holistically across all companies. This comprehensive scope approach increases transparency and comparability.
The combination of packaging expertise, contract logistics and a digital platform creates an integrated approach. Customers receive not just a packaging solution, but a sustainable overall solution along the supply chain.
At the same time, AXXUM takes a realistic approach. Sustainability is implemented effectively, without unnecessary bureaucracy or symbolic measures.
Outlook: Sustainability as a long-term value proposition
Reducing the corporate carbon footprint remains a key objective. International transparency and digital solutions are being further expanded.
For AXXUM, sustainability is not a trend, but a promise. For customers, this means planning security, regulatory certainty and a partner who takes responsibility.
Anyone looking for a logistics and packaging partner who thinks beyond mere performance will find a future-proof solution in AXXUM.
